Kapi is a janya raga of kharaharapriya. Kapi is one of the most used ragas in film music and its very popular in both carnatic and hindustani. The arohana is similar to desh and is in happy major scale and the avarohanam uses G2 and ends in minor scale. Also there is freedom to use anaya swaras. Kapi is a raga that evokes pathos, sadness and bhakti. At the same time, it is not very heavy like charukesi or shuba panthuvarali. It evokes a form of relatively mild pathos and sadness and also the aarohana being major scale gives scope to bring in a lot of melody in the compositions.

My favourite instrument is violin. Flute is also very nice with kapi. There are lots of great film songs in kapi and the list is really big. The raga is really endearing and is both sweet and mellowing.
